“Chromo Sapiens” by Shoplifter, Venice Biennale 2019
Catie Magee is a Bay Area design leader who has been building teams, products, and experiences that seek to create change, connect people, and inspire joy for the past 25 years. She is at her best when she is collaborating with passionate people and engaging in complex processes to bring a common vision to life.
She found her passion for wild, creative projects in 1999 when she hoisted up four giant redwood beams in the Nevada desert to create the “Time Chime” — a 20’ tall redwood and stainless steel wind chime with a small seat hanging a central rope. Watching participant’s quietly personal and joyful interactions with the sculpture turned her on to what would become a life-long passion: creating interactive art that seek to inspire awe and connection through the unexpected.
In 2000, she joined the Digital Branding team at Landor Associates where she perfected the art of all-night proposal writing and earned her superhero badge for studio and project management. She dove into healthcare in 2003, and graduated with an MPH from San Francisco State University in 2006. After a decade designing public health programs, in 2013, Catie found herself at the intersection of user experience design, project management, and healthcare in a role building the design team at Practice Fusion.
As the Director of Design & User Research, Catie has worked to build a customer-focused and designer-centered culture at Practice Fusion. Her commitment to collaborative leadership and empowering people to discover their potential has helped build a strong, empathetic, and innovative team that puts healthcare providers and their staff at the center of everything they do.
She loves a good climb up Hawk Hill, curating art-and-food-fueled adventures across the globe, and building giant, impossible sculptures that stop people in their tracks.
